Western Roman Empire

The Western Roman Empire emerged from the final division of the empire under Theodosius in AD 395, with capitals at Milan and later Ravenna. It progressively lost control through fiscal crises, pressure from Goths, Vandals, Huns and Alans, and the sacks of Rome in 410 and 455. Its conventional end came in 476, when Odoacer deposed Romulus Augustulus.
