1993 AD – 2026 AD · peak 2020 AD

The European Union is a political and economic union of 27 member states established by the 1992 Maastricht Treaty to foster integration and prevent conflict in Europe. It maintains a single market, a common currency for 20 nations, and a central administration in Brussels, Belgium. Despite historical growth, the union faced its first major withdrawal with the 2020 exit of the United Kingdom, alongside ongoing challenges regarding fiscal policy and sovereign borders.
