Empire of Japan

The Empire of Japan was a constitutional monarchy that expanded aggressively during the Shōwa era, seeking hegemony through the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Following the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, Japan occupied vast territories in East and Southeast Asia before its momentum was reversed by Allied forces. The empire's overseas expansion ended with its unconditional surrender in August 1945 following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
