Russian Empire

The Russian Empire under the Romanov dynasty expanded to the Pacific, including the colonization of Alaska until its sale to the United States in 1867. Key domestic shifts included the abolition of serfdom in 1861 and the modernization of infrastructure via the Trans-Siberian Railway starting in 1891.
